GSMA outraged at claims 5G and coronavirus are linked

All four UK networks have united to condemn arson attacks on 5G masts prompted by a YouTube video that claims the coronavirus is a manifestation of human body cells being poisoned by high frequency 5G transmissions.

The GSMA has also added its condemnation to a statement by O2, EE, Three and Vodafone which states: “There is no scientific evidence of any link between 5G and coronavirus. Fact. Now only are these claims baseless, they are harmful for the people and businesses that rely n the continuity of our services. They have also led to the abuse of our engineers and, in some cases, prevented essential network maintenance taking place”.

The GSMA said: “The GSMA condemns these acts of violence designed to weaken our communications networks in a time of crisis. Our vision at the GSMA is to unlock the power of connectivity so that people, industry and society thrive. We must unite in the global fight against COVID-19 and combat the fake news and violent actions linking 5G communications technology to the spread of the virus. This disinformation campaign is inciting fear, aggression, and vandalism against the critical infrastructure and essential maintenance workers who are keeping our public services connected, as well as our economy running. The GSMA calls on internet giants, content providers and social media platforms to accelerate their efforts to remove fake news linking 5G to the spread of COVID-19. Full Fact, the UK’s independent fact-checking charity has confirmed that there is no link between 5G and COVID-19. We also urge governments around the world to take swift action against disinformation, vandalism and threats against mobile network field engineers.

“The telecoms industry is working around the clock to keep vital health, education and emergency services online, businesses running, and friends and families connected,” said Mats Granryd, Director General of the GSMA, the global communications industry body. “It is deplorable that critical communications infrastructure is being attacked based on outright mistruths. We urge everyone to trust health authorities and rest assured communications technology is safe. There is no link between 5G and COVID-19.”

The GSMA said an independent international watchdog confirmed there is no risk of harm to people, including children, from exposure to radio frequencies from mobile networks, including 5G.

“In its findings, the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection reviewed 20 additional years of research and echoed previous reassurances from the World Health Organization.

England’s National Medical Director Stephen Powis has been widely reported in the media as saying, “The 5G story is complete and utter rubbish, it’s nonsense, it’s the worst kind of fake news.”

Vodafone UK CEO Nick Jeffrey told his Linkedin followers he was saddened about the arson attacks.

“It beggars belief that some people should want to harm the very networks that are providing essential connectivity to the emergency services, the NHS, and rest of the country during this difficult lockdown period. This is now a matter of national security. Police and counter terrorism authorities are investigating. Online stories connecting the spread of coronavirus to 5G are utterly baseless. Please don’t share them on social media. Fake news can have serious consequences”

The attacks on the masts in Birmingham, Liverpool and Merseyside have been provoked by a video narrated by an unamed man who describes himself as “head of the largest business unit at Vodafone between 2013 and 2015”. He claims to have worked on IoT and 5G at Vodafone and says he  “knew a long time a long time ago that 5G was dangerous”.

He claims the high frequency of 5G is poisonous to human cells which emit toxins that the body expels and that these toxins are coronavirus.

The unidentified narrator says the pandemic is “a reaction of the human body to the electrification of the universe through 5G satellites towers and cells in major cities. This is what is causing the pandemic”.

The man calls the proliferation of 5G and the pandemic as “the largest global cover-up in history for the impact on humans based on technological advancements”.

But while he sounds knowledgeable about spectrum matters he mispronounces Huawei as “highway”.

The video ends with him claiming global economies are being being shut down to enable a new world order led by Amazon and Google to manage the supply chain of everything people purchase. A new blockchain digital currency will only be made available to people who submit to a vaccine which embeds a nano-tracking chip in their body and that this is ultimately being driven by Bill Gates.
