Handsets with discounts include those from Samsung, Microsoft and Huawei

All four UK operators have kicked off their January sales promotions discounting handsets and contracts by up to half price.

Three is currently running what it claims is the biggest ever SIM-only sale. The monthly pricing of certain SIM-only deals has been reduced by up to 50 per cent for the first three months of each plan. New and existing customers are eligible for the discount. For example, one tariff with 12GB of data and unlimited minutes will cost £13.50 for the first three months before increasing back to its original £27 pricing for the remaining nine months.

Another discounted plan includes 8GB of data and 600 minutes for £12 per month, which then increases to the original £19 monthly price for the remaining nine months. The offer is only available until January 29.

EE is offering customers a £660 discount off the Osprey 2 Mini portable 4G Wi-Fi device. Customers can get 50GB of data with the device on a 24-month contract for just £27.50 per month. Original pricing was £55 per month. The promotion is only available until February 9.

Customers can also save up to 50 per cent on a prepay handset until February 9. The Huawei Y5 now costs £34.99 (originally £69.99), the LG Leon 4G now £49.99 (originally £59.99), whilst the EE Rook now costs £29.99 (originally £49.99).

O2 is offering up to £120 off various devices until January 13. The Samsung Galaxy S6 costs £28.50 per month rather than the original £33.50 monthly price, for example. This comes with unlimited texts, 500 minutes and 500MB of data. Other Samsung handsets in the sale include the Galaxy S6 edge and the Galaxy S6 edge plus. The network has also discounted prepay handsets. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol3 now costs £109.99 (originally £149.99), whilst the LG Spirit 4G costs £89.99 (originally £109.99).

Vodafone’s Winter Sale is running until February 1. The network has knocked up to £51 off certain prepay handsets. The Microsoft Lumia 640 now costs £79, the Motorola Moto G now £89 whilst the Huawei P8 Lite is now £99. Customers can also save up to 25 per cent off SIM-only plans. A Red Value 20GB Bundle, which comes with unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 20GB of data now costs £30 per month (originally £40), whilst a 2GB Bundle, which comes with unlimited minutes and unlimited texts, now costs £15.30 per month (originally £17).
