The attack in Istanbul Ataturk Airport has claimed the lives of 41 people
Vodafone, Three and iD are offering free calls, texts and data usage to and from Turkey following terrorist attacks in Istanbul Ataturk Airport on June 27.
The decision from each company is to help support worried friends and family, and will run between 20:00 on June 28 and 23:59 on June 30. O2 and iD will automatically take any charges off.
Three customers, however, will have to contact the operator directly to get a refund. The refunds from Three only apply to those who believe they have friends or family affected. O2 said it is not running any similar offers.
A statement from Vodafone reads: “Our thoughts go out to those affected by the shocking events in Istanbul yesterday evening. We know that at times like these, customers need to be able to get in contact with loved ones without worrying about the cost.”
It echoes US operators wavering all charges for text messages and calls made to and from Turkey between June 28 and July 5. The attack has killed 41 people and injured more than 230. It took place in the departures hall in the airport, which is Europe’s third busiest. Reports say two men opened fire with automatic rifles before blowing themselves up.
