O2 and Virgin Mobiles are the only big operators that haven’t announced EU roaming charges

Tesco Mobile has quietly reintroduced EU roaming charges for its customers, making it the latest network to do so along with Three, EE, Vodafone and Sky Mobile.

The operator updated its terms and conditions without announcing the changes to customers after previously saying they wouldn’t bring back the fees.

The charges will be brought in from January 1 2023, meaning customers can still benefit from free roaming for the rest of the year.

Customers who joined before June 16 2022 will not be affected by the roaming fees in 2023 providing they don’t upgrade their contracts.

For those who joined or upgraded on or after June 16 2022 and who use their mobile abroad will incur charges of 10p per MB of data used, 20p per SMS text message, and 55p per minute for calls.

A Tesco Mobile spokesperson said: We understand that now, more than ever, customers want great value. That’s why we’re one of the only networks to offer free roaming this year.

“Tesco Mobile customers can use their data, minutes, and texts at no additional cost, in 48 destinations across Europe and beyond.”

The operator also said it is committed to “providing customers with great value, in a way that only a supermarket can” and that the 2023 changes allow Tesco “to invest in new offers for Tesco shoppers.”
