SOTI: integrate systems to make most of mobile

Legacy systems must be developed rather than scrapped insists SOTI’s Sarah Edge

Poor integration is hindering businesses in fully maximising the benefits of mobile technology.

That is the view of Sarah Edge (pictured), director of sales for the UK and Ireland at business mobility and IoT specialists SOTI, who urges businesses to invest in their existing legacy systems.

This comes off the back of a SOTI report that found that more than half (56 per cent) of enterprise businesses don’t have the right device management technology in place.

This is despite these business leaders acknowledging that their portfolio of mobile devices has grown.

Edge says that SOTI can negate these issues by providing solutions to companies that need help keeping up with the demand created by more connected devices.

“While IoT is a massive growth area, this growth is giving these businesses a headache when it comes to managing all these types of devices,” said Edge.

“At SOTI, we’re trying to help these companies combat these headaches by giving businesses visibility into all their different devices through one single pane of glass.

“It’s important that we try and simplify the whole thing so that businesses can manage all their different types of devices through one portal.”

Existing systems

The report also revealed that 71 per cent of organisations are looking to spend more on IoT expenditure.

But this spend shouldn’t mean that businesses write off their existing systems, adds Edge. “The disconnect between legacy and mobile systems needs to be addressed.

“Our report found that businesses integrating legacy systems with all of the new requirements is a big headache for these businesses.

“We know that businesses cannot afford to write off their legacy systems, and it’s really about integrating your new requirements with everything you already have in existence.”

SOTI seeks to provide these businesses with software solution plans to better manage fleets of devices.

The company has sales engineers that can look at a firm’s systems and devise specific software solution plans for them to manage, adds Edge.
