Nick Porter is confident that the latest addition to the foldable series will be a success
Samsung has released its latest foldable smartphones, the Z Fold4 and Z Flip4, arriving a year after the release of the third Samsung generation of foldables.
The Flip4 features a 3,700mAh dual battery and a 6.7-inch main screen, while the Fold4 has a 4,400mAh dual battery and 7.6-inch main screen.
According to Samsung, 10 million foldable smartphones were shipped worldwide last year and that the company saw a 666 per cent market growth in foldables year-on-year in the
first half of 2022.
“The Galaxy Z Flip4 builds on the success of our iconic form factor, adding key features and refinements, including upgraded cameras, polished designs, larger batteries and expanded customisation for more versatility,” said Nick Porter, VP of product management and commercial operations at Samsung.
“The Galaxy Z Fold4 delivers Samsung’s most comprehensive smartphone experience to date, offering shape-shifting design, immersive and flexible displays, PC-like multitasking,
advanced camera technology and powerful mobile processors.”
New market
As the foldables market grows, Porter says that Samsung’s Z series is attracting new customers who are coming over from other vendors.
“A quarter of our Galaxy Z Flip3 customers and one fifth of our Fold3 customers have switched to us from other brands, with around half of those coming from our biggest
competitor,” he said.
“We’re demonstrating that foldables are for everyone and our success to date shows they are here to stay.”
Porter adds that Samsung is the clear foldable leader, but welcomes competition in the market.
“Competitors are contributing to making foldables more mainstream, which is only a good thing,” he said.
“We see new entrants into the market as affirmation of our success and the potential for an even bigger market moving forward.”
