Research revealed many older people are not comfortable booking a doctor’s appointment online
Vodafone UK Foundation has teamed up with national charity Independent Age to launch Hi Digital- a new programme for the over 65’s to help with their digital skills, save money and be better connected.
Hi Digital is a free online resource that offers advice on how to navigate the web, online shopping, and communicating with friends and family.
Vodafone UK Foundation carried out research that reveals older people could face a worse financial crisis as their concerns about using the internet could make them miss out on deals and services- adding up to a potential £1000 loss per year.
The research also showed that 54 per cent of those who were concerned about using the internet were worried about scams, 49pc were worried about fixing the internet, and 38pc found the pace of the digital world hard to keep up with.
Of those who feel comfortable online, 27pc said they would benefit from learning new digital skills and 41pc said they wouldn’t know where to look for help.
Vodafone’s UK corporate affairs and sustainability director Nicki Lyons said: “Our everyone.connected campaign is helping people access the connectivity, devices and skills they need to live life to the full.
“Through Hi Digital, our Foundation’s programme, and our partnership with Independent Age, we hope to reach 50,000 older people and give them the confidence to unlock financial savings and feel more connected to their loved ones.”
