Asset disposal firm ICT Reverse is celebrating its 20th anniversary this week.
The company was established in 2003 by Craig Smith and was originally known as ShP processing largely used phones. It rebranded as ICT in 2016 and in 2018 the company was acquired by Asian firm EcoRenew which also bought Mazuma.
Smith set up ShP In the late 90s when he was working as an Orange sales executive and spotted that there was no mechanism in place to process redundant phones at the time of the upgrade.
ICT Reverse is one of the Morecambe area’s leading employers, with more than 70 people working at the White Lund Industrial Estate base. It processes around 47,000 devices each month of which 75 per cent are reused and another 25 per cent recycled with none going to landfill.
Smith said his next goal is to develop new ways to reduce IT waste
“We are continually looking at ways to develop our skills and expertise in this area. We are currently working on a partnership with Lancaster University to develop a sustainable electronic waste solution using bioleaching”.
