The union said it is “looking to secure a fair deal” for workers who have contributed to BT success – the company saw profits rise eight per cent in the last three months of 2013

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) is to hold discussions with BT next month over pay, after the telecommunications company announced its first quarterly revenue growth in four and a half years.

BT Group’s revenue for the last three months of 2013 was £4.6 billion, up two per cent year-on-year from £4.5 billion.

Pre-tax profit also grew, by eight per cent to £722 million, compared to £666 million in the same period last year.

The CWU “welcomed” the results and said it will be entering negotiations with BT management in the next month about a pay claim for CWU represented grades.

Deputy general secretary Andy Kerr said: “This strong set of results, showing an increase in both revenue and pre-tax profit, and is testament to the talent and commitment of BT’s workforce.

“We will be negotiating with BT management in the near future about pay for CWU represented grades, and we’ll be looking to secure a fair deal that properly reflects the contribution BT’s workforce makes to the company’s ongoing success.”
