The ROKiT IO and IO Pro 3D will both be released at the end of March

US manufacturer ROKiT is using the lure of personal insurance plans to sell two Android smartphones.

The start-up vendor also offers Lloyd’s of London-underwritten insurance under ROK Life Services covering personal accidents, national vehicle breakdown, excess protection and key care. Insurance payouts range from £100 to £50,000, and smartphones come with three months of free ROK Life Services.

Former Kazam and Wileyfox boss Michael Coombes will take charge of ROKiT as CEO with sales director Stuart Furnival.

Coombes said: “We set up ROKiT to make a difference in the mobile phone market with our affordable and stylish handsets. ROKiT provides the technology people need with unique 3D screens and the ROK Life Services.”

Users can take advantage of free WiFi calling to UK landlines and mobiles across 60 countries.

The ROKiT IO 3D (£139.99) and ROKiT IO Pro 3D (£249.99) can display 3D images without the use of special glasses, reminiscent of the Nintendo 3DS games console and high-definition televisions. Both will be released at the end of March.

Bolted onto the ROKiT IO 3D is a dual 12 and 2MP rear camera, and 8MP front-facer. The 4G device comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. The 3D screen measures 5.99 inches and runs at FHD+ resolution. Other features include a fingerprint sensor, 16GB memory, 2GB RAM and 2,500mAh battery.

The Pro 3D features all the above and a gyro compass. It has 64GB memory, 4GB of RAM and a 3,850mAh battery.
