Oppo entered the UK market in 2019

Oppo has set an ambitious target to become the leading smartphone brand in Europe.

The Chinese vendor is hoping to build on a strong performance in 2020, which saw the brand grow 200pc YoY in Western Europe.

Last year Oppo expanded into four new markets in the region, taking the total to 12 in Western Europe.

Oppo shipped 115.1 million smartphones last year making it the fifth-highest vendor according to Canalys.

Analysts have previously tipped Oppo as a brand to challenge the duopoly following the fallout from Huawei’s woes.

Oppo’s Western European president Maggie Xue is confident the ambitious target can be met.

“The unprecedented growth Oppo has seen in Europe in 2020 makes us extremely proud because it means we’re delivering world-class products that go above and beyond meeting our customers’ needs.

“We’ve set an ambitious goal for the next few years to become one of the top manufacturers in Europe – and we’re convinced we will achieve this. It is the same ambition that drives true innovation, progress and the values of our company.”

Growth

Oppo first launched in the UK in early 2019 as part of an exclusive partnership with retailer Carphone Warehouse.

The manufacturer has since partnered with most of the UK mobile networks and has grown similar partnerships across Europe.

A key part of Oppo’s growth in Europe has been through building lucrative sponsorships.

This has included deals to sponsor the Cricket World Cup, Wimbledon Championships, plus partnerships with FC Barcelona and Italian supercar brand Lamborghini.

Next week Oppo launches its Find X3 series on March 11.
