Three completes customer move to 4G tariffs

All Three customers are now on a 4G tariff, although only 1.7 million out of its 7.9 million base have a 4G-enabled device

Three has moved all customers on to a 4G tariff, in order to speed up the process of upgrading to the superfast service.

The operator announced today (February 28) that its entire base of 7.9 million customers is on a 4G tariff, although only 1.7 million currently have a 4G-enabled device.

This will allow those customers who wish to upgrade to a 4G device and service to do so without changing their contract or their SIM card.

CEO David Dyson said: “Everything has been enabled to give customers a simple and seamless transition to the new technology once they have a 4G device.”

Three is able to do this as it is offering 4G for free, rather than at a premium to 3G like other operators.

Its 4G network is now live in 36 large towns and cities including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Reading and Liverpool. Three said it is on track to have 4G live in 50 cities and over 200 towns by the end of the year, and 98% population coverage by the end of 2015.

Three’s 4G service has also gone live in: Blackpool, Bolton, Bournemouth, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Derby, Dudley, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Huddersfield, Kingswood, Leeds, Leicester, Long Eaton, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Nottingham, Oldham, Oxford, Penarth, Poole, Preston, Slough, Southampton, Southend On Sea, Wallsend, Walsall, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton.
