Samsung moves to block iPhone 4S

Samsung will look to block new Apple iPhone 4S device in France and Italy citing patent infringements

Samsung today said it would file preliminary injunctions in France and Italy in an attempt to block any sales of the newly released iPhone 4S there.

The Korean manufacturer said in a statement on its official blog today, that the injunctions would cite two patent infringements related to wireless telecommunications technology.

These it said these were in relation to Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) standards for 3G Mobile handsets.

“The infringed technology is essential to the reliable functioning of telecom networks and devices and Samsung believes that Apple’s violation as being too severe and that the iPhone 4S should be barred from sales,” the statement read.

“Apple has continued to flagrantly violate our intellectual property rights and free ride our technology. We believe it is now necessary to take legal action to protect our innovation.”

Samsung said it planned to file similar injunctions in other countries after further review.
