The operator has collaborated with the care technology supplier to power a specially adapted tablet

Vodafone UK has partnered with Alcove to connect over 3,000 elderly and vulnerable people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The operator has worked closely with the care technology supplier to provide connectivity for Alcove’s Video Carephone.

The Carphone is a specially adapted tablet that offers easy-to-use video and voice calls to friends, family and carers.

This tablet helps combat loneliness and delivers virtual care without the need for fixed-line internet.

It also provides reminders for health and wellbeing tasks, such as when to take medicines at the right time.

The Alcove Video Carephone has been distributed by local councils across Essex, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Northern Ireland, South Tyneside and Suffolk for vulnerable people, care agencies and Covid-19 recovery facilities.

Opportunity

Vodafone UK general counsel and external affairs director Helen Lamprell said: “There is a huge opportunity for technology to transform social care and we are thrilled that our connectivity is helping vulnerable people keep connected and healthy during this health crisis.”

Alcove chief executive Hellen Bowey added: “We are thrilled that our Video Carephone has had such a huge impact, particularly during this terrible pandemic.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship as we supply the Video Carephone to other areas of the UK.”
