The operator is using its recently acquired 700MHz spectrum to support indoor 5G performance

EE has expanded the next phase of its 5G rollout, after switching its indoor 5G service on in more than 50 cities in the UK.

This will allow for better indoor 5G performance in areas with existing 5G, with EE using its newly acquired 700MHz 5G spectrum that it won at the Ofcom auction earlier this year.

The operator, which was the first in the UK to launch 5G, says its seen a ‘seven-fold increase’ in people using its 5G network during the last year.

“We’ve got big ambitions for 5G connectivity in the next decade, and this is the latest milestone in our journey to provide our customers with unrivalled connectivity,” said EE director of mobile networks David Salam.

“This next stage of our 5G rollout will enable our customers to enjoy even better 5G, keeping them connected to the things that are most important to them.”

EE recently set out plans to extend its 5G network to reach half of the UK population by 2023, and to have 5G available anywhere in the country by 2028.
