Chairman Chris Stanton claims the service can help customers save thousands of pounds on utility bills
O2 direct partner Welcomm Communications has launched a new utilities business selling gas and electricity, which it expects to add up to £500,000 a year to its revenues.
The new business, called “Welcomm Energy”, has been undergoing trials for the past two months and will officially go live later this month.
The Market Harborough based firm, has around 4,000 customers and a turnover of £8 million in its last financial year.
It has teamed up with an unnamed distributor, which works with a number of utility firms including Total, Gazprom, EDF and npower, to provide a brokering service, something it claims will help save customers thousands of pounds.
Huge savings
Welcomm chairman Chris Stanton told Mobile News: “We’ll be brokering with customers to obtain the best rates for them. Some of our customers are spending half a million pounds a year on electricity. Helping them cut just 10 per cent of that will provide huge savings.
“We’ve trialled the service over the last few months and we’ve worked out we can save customers several thousands of pounds a year. There are certainly savings to be had.”
Stanton said the service was launched following queries and feedback from Welcomm customers over the last year. The company will hire up to six members of staff for the service, who will all be based at its existing Market Harborough headquarters.
