Vodafone Group commissions building of a 26k sq m logistics hub in Luxembourg

Vodafone Group is building a massive logistics hub in Luxembourg to store mobile and fixed network equipment for its European markets.

The 26,000-square-meter facility will be managed by the Vodafone Procurement Company and is expected to enable more efficient movement of equipment, such as antennas and routers, across Vodafone’s European businesses. Vodafone estimates that 88 per cent of its in-market warehouses in Europe can be reached from Luxembourg within 24 hours.

Vodafone Procurement manages a budget of more than €24bn across Vodafone’s operating companies, partner markets, joint ventures and other customers. VPC’s team operates in four main categories: IT, Networks, Commercial & Services and Devices

The agreement was signed by Vodafone Group’s Chief Financial Officer, Luka Mucic, and Luxembourg’s Minister of the Economy, SME, Energy, and Tourism, Lex Delles.

Vodafone has contracted MG Real Estate to develop the 26,000-square-meter warehouse in Luxembourg’s Bettembourg Logistic Park. Digital technology to centrally monitor the logistics of the Group’s entire end-to-end supply chain in real time across its markets.

The building aims to achieve an outstanding BREEAM sustainable certification by utilising sustainable materials, processes, and technologies to minimize its carbon footprint.

Luka Mucic commented: “The creation of a new pan-European logistics hub in Luxembourg aligns with our strategy to simplify Vodafone’s operations and reinforces our commitment to cost-efficiency in our supply chain. This investment will also strengthen Luxembourg’s position as a world-class logistics centre.”
