Vodafone has launched a Carbon Calculator app, a tool designed to help business customers better understand the carbon emissions generated by their mobile phone usage.
The app calculates the emissions associated with mobile plans and was developed in partnership with the Carbon Trust.
According to Vodafone, by gaining insights into the environmental impact of their mobile plans, customers can make informed decisions to reduce emissions and “contribute to a more sustainable future”.
This initiative is part of Vodafone UK’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes commitments to achieve net-zero emissions across its operations by 2027 and its entire value chain by 2040.
In addition, Vodafone is offer business customers a trade-in app that provides businesses with instant, guaranteed savings when trading in eligible devices—further supporting efforts to minimize environmental impact.
Four years ago, Vodafone estimated that the entire information and communication technology sector was responsible for up to 2.8 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
“Today, e-waste has become a growing concern, with an estimated 8kg of e-waste produced per person in 2023, amounting to a staggering 61.3 million tonnes globally” the network states.
