Uswitch: Changing broadband providers can save customers £162 a year

The survey revealed that 36 per cent of Brits have never switched providers

Customers are missing out on £162 a year by not switching broadband providers, according to research by price comparison website Uswitch.

The research showed that those earning up to £25,000 per year saw an increase of up to £10 per month in their broadband spending and 34pc of those earning up to £45,000 saw an increase of at least £4.99 per month.

However the report highlighted that Brits working from home are more likely to switch their providers and not see an increase in their spending.

Max Beckett, broadband expert at Uswitch.com recommends switching broadband providers at the end of the contract because your monthly charge will most likely increase from your fixed-term to offer to the provider’s standard price.

The survey also asked internet users asked what the main reason would be if they were to change their broadband provider, and 48pc said it would be due to cost.

Beckett says: “When you near the end of your broadband contract, it’s important to check if there’s a better service from another provider that’s more suited to your needs. This could mean faster speeds, a cheaper monthly payment, better customer service or even all three.

Consumers can save an average of £162 a year by switching to a new broadband deal. Price is naturally a big factor when deciding what service to sign up for. But with many of us working and learning from home nowadays, a fast and reliable broadband connection is equally as important.”
