Survey by Spitfire Network Services Ltd shows a lack of preparedness amongst SMEs ahead of Openreach Analogue and ISDN Switch Off

Two-thirds of UK SMEs haven’t considered how the Openreach Analogue and ISDN Switch Off will affect employees working remotely according to telecoms provider Spitfire Network Services Ltd.

By 2025, the last elements of Openreach’s analogue and ISDN network will be turned off as an all-IP network replaces legacy services.

Openreach will switch off services at each exchange in turn. The first stage to announce a “stop sell” date for each exchange and after this no new affected services can be ordered to existing services.

There are already 200 exchanges that will be in the Stop Sell phase by January 2022.

Spitfire Network Services sales director Dominic Norton said: “With the pandemic shifting the way businesses operate in terms of remote working, it’s quite concerning to see that these workers could be severely disrupted yet businesses don’t actually know how and when.

“This survey has been a real eye opener. Clearly there is a long way to go, so once again our message is really to take action now and avoid disruption further down the line. If you’re a business that will have people remote working long term, this is as important to you as it is to office-based companies,” added Norton.”
