Study from Telness Tech found that majority of consumers would switch for a better deal if possible

Research shows that 64 per cent of customers are planning to ditch their mobile operator for a new one.

The research carried out on behalf of telecoms technology company Telness Tech revealed that 75pc of under 35’s are planning to switch to another operator within three years.

Of the 1,500 people surveyed, 49pc said they would join a mobile network provided by Facebook or Amazon if they offered this service.

When asking why they would switch, 59pc said they want a better deal, 21pc said it was for better connectivity, and another 21pc were recommended by friends and family.

Just 16pc have changed providers annually or more, but research indicates that this will change due to dissatisfaction, rumours of a price surge, and a re-introduction of data roaming charges for UK customers.

The survey also included 200 senior executives at telecoms companies and 96pc of them believed that their customers were loyal to their company.

Telness CCO Tech Sara Rasmussen said: “It is clear from the research that there is an immediate disconnect between the perceptions of telcos and consumers.

“The future is cloud-based platforms that allow telcos to innovate and constantly develop and deliver new services and pricing models. Consumers aren’t willing to wait around for a better deal or more interesting offerings- it’s about time telcos adapted to this new reality.”
