New research from Onecom shows businesses will spend on average £2,052 on telco services, up from £1,400 in 2016

Research from Hampshire-based dealer Onecom states small-medium businesses will spend £2052 on telecommunications services, a 40 per cent increase.

The research was conducted on 208 workers, self-employed individuals and small business owners. The survey was carried out on May 22 this year. An Ofcom report on SMEs last year found in 2016 SMEs spent £1,400 on average for telco services.

SMEs have described service they receive from their telco provider as poor (13pc), followed by 10pc who says this about their work mobile phones, and 8pc about their internet service at work.

Many SMEs are considering a switch for the telecos service, with 75pc considering their options.

Interestingly 35pc want to update to a 5G mobile service, followed by 31pc who plan to sign up for superfast broadband.

Onecom CEO Ben Dowd said: “The importance of telecoms to the success of an organisation has never been greater, and with the roll-out of 5G alongside the planned increase in investment in superfast broadband, it is only set to get bigger.

“When assessing your business’s telecoms requirements, there are a number of considerations to factor in including the nature of your business and its operations; staff numbers; the level of communication needed internally and with clients; the number of communication channels and sophistication of communications.
