Wide-ranging discussion covers production costs and processes
OnePlus has revealed the design of its upcoming mid-range smartphone, OnePlus Nord, in a YouTube interview.
Popular technology YouTuber Marques Brownlee interviewed OnePlus co-founder and global director Carl Pei, in a discussion about the cost of mid-range smartphone production.
In revealing the design, Pei showed that it has a dual front camera setup and a quad rear setup that he described as “flagship”, and will come in two colours.
Unlike previous OnePlus models, the camera has been moved to the side.
Additional details included a sub-$500 cost, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset, but no headphone jack. Pei also implied that the phone will have a 90Hz screen display.
“When it comes to displays, [the cost is] a lot about volume, so now that 90Hz displays have become really common, that drives the volume up and the price down,” he said. “We spent a lot on this display to ensure smooth scrolling, but we think it’s worth it.”
Pei also showed prototype models of the device.
The Nord will have a full unveiling on July 21. In an earlier forum post announcing its development, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said it would see a launch in Europe and India ahead of a United States launch.
