New CEO Mark Evans has vowed to not make any fundamental changes in strategy

O2 CEO Mark Evans has vowed to continue the “good work” from his predecessor Ronan Dunne, insisting there will be no major wholesale changes under his leadership.

Evans, who took over from Verizon-bound Dunne on August 1, said during a discussion over the firm’s recent quarterly financial results that the current strategy is the right one.

“You’re not going to see a fundamental change in strategy from myself and the team,” Evans explained.

“It will continue to be a customer-led, mobile-first strategy and the reason is simple: we think it has worked. It will be business as usual and a continuity of what you have seen over the past few years. I have worked with Ronan on that for four years, fully supportive of the judgements we have taken over that time.”

Customer growth

Dunne, who has accepted a job as group president of US operator Verizon starting September, leaves as the operator recorded its highest quarterly customer growth rate in 18 months.

The results for the three months ending June 31, saw O2 add 240,000 connections (206,000 excluding M2M), up by 20 per cent year on year. It also produced a record low for contract churn, down 0.1 per cent to 0.8.

“Customers are continuing to choose us as their service provider, whether that’s because of the flexibility we provide, transparency in the perk or their affinity towards our brand.”
