Outdoor-friendly cameras and tablets in the offing, says European CEO
Rugged device manufacturer AGM has laid the cornerstone on a new factory in the Chinese city of Huizhou, which it says will become the “world’s largest factory dedicated to the production of outdoor electrical equipment”.
The main aim of the new site (artist’s impression, main picture) will be to diversify AGM’s offerings beyond rugged smartphones, of which it claims to be the number one manufacturer in China.
Speaking to Mobile News, AGM Europe CEO Robert Pryke said the company’s products could expand to include cameras, tablets, and binoculars, but that due to the need to set up production lines, they had not settled on any specific models yet.
He also added that he was in discussions with AGM’s Chinese leadership over the production of appropriate merchandising, such as waterproof backpacks, but that these would also be contingent on the production lines.
AGM Chairman CZ said: “At AGM, we are dedicated to offering customers innovative and high-quality durable smartphone devices and now also outdoor equipment. We are committed to investing in next-generation technology and this new factory represents a significant milestone in the next phase of the growth of AGM. It will enable us to expand our product offering beyond just mobile devices and into other areas where our customers are looking for high quality outdoor equipment”.
The 35,000 square-metre site is set to be completed by the end of 2021. It will house production facilities, R&D, laboratories, warehousing, and a global support centre, as well as a product showroom.
