The shopping website also saw the number of purchases made from a mobile device double on Sunday compared to the same day last year
eBay saw the number of those visiting its site from a mobile device almost double this weekend from the same day last year.
On ‘Super Sunday’ (2 December) more than three million logged on to the shopping site. The number of mobile visitors to the site went up 96 percent on the same day last year, with mobile sales up 110 percent.
In terms of what was bought, tablets and networking gadgets such as web cameras were the second highest selling category, with mobile phones and related gadgets coming in fourth.
eBay’s senior director of mobile Olivier Ropars said: “It’s no surprise to see consumers taking advantage of their mobile and tablet devices to save time and track down some great Christmas deals.
“Mobile devices put a global store in the pockets of millions of consumers around the world – and as our busiest Super Sunday to date has proved, they also provide a huge opportunity for retailers who adopt effective multichannel strategies, enabling them to reach the increasing number of shoppers who turn to their mobile devices for their festive shopping.”
