All major retailers offering significant discounts on what is likely to be the biggest trading day of the year

One of the biggest trading days in the mobile phone year is underway with shoppers flocking to stores to take advantage of Black Friday deals.

Carphone says that they had customers queuing from early morning ahead of its ‘flash sale’ which it was running up until midnight on Tuesday 2 December.

Its headline deal was for the Samsung Galaxy S5 which the retailer says customers could save £200 upfront when taking it on a £22.50 per month tariff, with an upfront cost of £29.99. Savings of £170 and £220 were also being offered on the Sony Xperia Z3 and HTC One (M8) respectively.

“Last year, Black Friday represented our biggest weekend of online traffic and online trading,” said Carphone Warehouse chief executive officer Graham Stapleton.

“Black Friday marks the beginning of the first big shopping weekend of the shopping season and this year Carphone Warehouse discounts will run from 8am on Friday morning to midnight on 2nd December. Shoppers will be rushing to catch a bargain on the go and we’re expecting more than 60% of traffic to be from smartphones or tablets.”
