Retailer passes original target meaning that almost 200 Carphone Warehouse concessions now open in Curry’s/PC World stores
Dixons Carphone has exceeded its original target of having 30 Carphone Warehouse store-in-stores in Curry’s/PC World outlets opened by Christmas.
The retailer confirmed to Mobile News that it has now opened 32 of the stores ahead of its self-imposed Christmas deadline. The 32 stores are in addition to the 158 Phones 4u concessions outlets that were rebranded as Carphone Warehouse after they were purchased from administration in September. One of the in-store Phones 4u outlet was closed as part of the deal.
“We are pleased to confirm that Dixons Carphone has now completed the roll-out of 32 brand new Carphone Warehouse store-in-stores in Curry’s & PC World stores across the country, beating the original target of opening 30 stores before Christmas,” said a Dixons Carphone spokesperson. “Plans for the next wave of openings will be announced in due course.”
As part of the £3.7 billon merger which completed in August 2014, the new entity announced plans to cut the number of Curry’s/PC World stores from 500 to 360.
This means that there are still around 100 store-in-stores to open et year. Carphone Warehouse has a retail estate of around 800 stores.
