The company has report a boost in sales during the pandemic

Online retailer The iOutlet has relocated to a new warehouse as part of long-term plans to boost productivity and continue expansion.

The Plymouth-based business specialises in selling refurbished phones, tablets and laptops.

The company has now moved to Sisna Park, located in the north of Plymouth and in close proximity to its previous HQ.

A key factor behind the move is the company’s ambitions to continue expansion. The new location 14,500 is square foot, compared to the previous premises which was 3,800 square foot.

The move was completed in mid-October, with co-founder and director Liam James saying it was a seven-figure investment.

Commenting on the move, James said that the business has already seen the benefits of its new bigger workspace, after a strong seasonal period.

“It got to the point where we needed to move on and expand into a bigger premises and this proved to be the perfect time for us,” he said.

“There’s more room for staff to work and this boosted productivity. Black Friday just gone was a key indicator of this, it was so much calmer compared to the old premises where sales numbers were smaller.”

Productivity has also benefited with the bigger premises allowing for better social distancing practices to be applied.

“The new location allows us to continue working safely during the pandemic as we have the space to the allow the staff to space out, whereas in a smaller unit we would need to split the teams into remote and on-site.”

Record sales

According to James, The iOutlet had its best ever Christmas period, with online sales exceeding £1.2 million during November for the first time.

And when asked about the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, James said the company has been able to perform better than expected.

“We’ve seen a massive upsurge in sales over the pandemic, we’re in an industry which has been impacted in a positive way during the last year as people have needed tech products.

“People are working from home and needing to get their bigger desktops or computers for Zoom calls and a lot of people have been buying smartphones.”

The company has also been able to secure a steady flow of stock during the last few months and appointed three new people to work on the computer side of the business.
