Huawei has faced continuous scrutiny amid ‘spying’ allegations

Huawei has sacked sales director Wang Weijing following his arrest for alleged spying in Poland last week.

In a statement Huawei said Weijing’s actions had “no relation to the company” after he was arrested following a lengthy investigation.

A former member of the Polish intelligence service has also been detained on spying charges, as both men could be held for up to three months.

Both men could face up to 10 years in prison if they’re found guilty of spying.

The arrest and dismissal follows continuous scrutiny for Huawei after its chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou – the daughter of its founder – was arrested in Canada last month.

Weijing was a sales director at Huawei and worked as an attache at China’s embassy in Poland from 2006 until 2011 according to his LinkedIn profile.

Huawei said: “In accordance with the terms and conditions of Huawei’s labour contract, we have made this decision because the incident has brought Huawei into disrepute,” it added.”

Poland internal affairs minister Joachim Brudziński has called for both the EU and NATO to take a joint stance on the Chinese manufacture on whether to ban Huawei from their markets.

Speaking to broadcaster RMF FM BrudziÅ„ski said: “There are concerns about Huawei within Nato as well. It would make most sense to have a joint stance, among EU member states and Nato members.”
