Deal will allow MVNO, which offers a “free” SIM card, to bundle SIMs and handsets for the first time in the UK
Exertis has partnered with newly-launched Three MVNO FreedomPop as part of its plan to bundle SIMs with handsets for the first time.
The distributor, which has direct deals with Samsung, Microsoft, Sony, WileyFox, Kazam, ZTE and LG signed a deal late last month and hopes to offer its first bundled devices this month.
Exertis sales director Simon Woodman told Mobile News the company has taken an initial stock of 20,000 SIM’s which will be included with selected hand- sets – although final details were unavailable at press.
“We are currently finalising some deals for some mid-range and low-end handsets and will launch soon,” said Woodman.
He added the biggest obstacle will be convincing customers the deal is genuine – with SIMs providing 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200MB of data for free every month.
Customers can purchase addition bundles, including roaming packages through the FreedomPop app.
“It’s an unbelievable proposition, and from a consumer perspective it seems too good to be true,” said Woodman. “We’ll start with 20,000 SIMs and see how it is received.”
