Formerly retail category manager at the distributor, Holt will report to head of IT in newly created role

Exertis has appointed Ross Holt as its new head of gaming in a newly created role.

Holt joined Exertis as networking account manager for Micro Peripherals, but he left after three years to join Computer 2000 (now Tech Data).

He returned in 2010 to become Micro P’s retail account manager. He has held several roles at the distributor since, most recently as retail category manager.

“Exertis is uniquely positioned in this market,” said Holt. “We have all the components that can build or upgrade a gamers PC to successfully run VR; we have VR ready PCs from leading vendors like Asus, MSI & Acer; we have a great range of peripherals and accessories and we also have a digital content delivery service within the group which is predicting great growth.

“My role is to deepen this portfolio into our existing customers, help new entrants take advantage of the market and provide promotional roadmaps.”

Growing market

He takes up the newly created role as the PC gaming market is set to top £31.5 billion this year, up from £24 billion in 2015, according to Goldman Sachs.

The virtual reality market is also set to boom after a number of manufacturers, including Samsung, LG, HTC, Alcatel and Huawei unveiled VR headsets this year. Exertis has a number of PC gaming exclusives including Dell AlienWare and Medion computers.

Holt will report to Exertis IT commercial director Mark Reynolds. Reynolds said: “Exertis is already recognised as the leading gaming distributor in the UK providing a comprehensive range of gaming consoles, PC gaming hardware, gaming monitors, software, accessories and components.

“Ross’ role is to work with the relevant business units across the Exertis group to pull the PC gaming proposition together and thus ensuring that our customers can take advantage of this excellent growth opportunity.”
