The regulator tested mobile broadband speeds in London across five days throughout March
EE has been crowned the best network for mobile broadband speeds in London, according to Ofcom’s latest Smartphone Cities report published today (June 3).
The tests were conducted in March throughout five days across various areas in the capital. They analysed download and upload speeds, alongside web browsing times using a Samsung Galaxy S6, also known as a Cat-6 device. These are phones with hardware designed to give access to faster mobile speeds such as 4G. Other examples of Cat-6 devices include the LG G5, iPhone 6S and BlackBerry Priv.
EE’s 4G download speeds averaged 31.9Mbps, followed by Vodafone (19.9Mbps), Three (10.2Mbps) and O2 (6.5Mbps). Upload speeds on EE totalled 24.2Mbps. Vodafone came second (15.2Mbps), Three third (11.6Mbps) and O2 last (8.4Mbps).
The speed of how quickly the BBC homepage could be downloaded with each network was also tested. EE won again with a 3.3 second average, followed by Vodafone (3.4 seconds), O2 (4.2 seconds) and Three (4.3 seconds).
An EE spokesperson said: “The great speeds that our customers are getting is down to the investment that we’ve made in adding more capacity to our network. These Cat 6 devices, which include the iPhone 6s and the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S7, on the EE network are giving customers an amazing internet experience – fast data, great response times, and incredible reliability.”
