Vodafone is best for Voice App Experience, while EE wins inaugural Games Experience gong

EE is the best overall network in the UK for 3G and 4G performance, according to the most recent Opensignal United Kingdom Mobile Network Experience Report.

Using data gathered from 376,499 smartphones and more than three million measurements between June 1 and August 29, Opensignal found EE to be best in the following categories: Video, Games (the first time Opensignal has included a Games category), Download Speed, Upload Speed, 4G Availability, and 4G Coverage Experience.

Vodafone took home the Voice App Experience award. Key changes from last year’s report showed that O2 has pushed past Vodafone to take second place for Video Experience, while the Download Speed Experience gap between EE and Vodafone has widened from 50.3 per cent (11.6Mbps) to 71.4 per cent (14.6Mbps) due to a fall in average download speeds observed by Vodafone users of 2.6Mbps and an increase in EE’s average download speeds of 0.4Mbps.

Elsewhere, Vodafone closed the gap on EE in the Upload Speed category, but only due to EE’s average upload speeds declining by a greater amount (0.9Mbps or 9.8 per cent) than Vodafone’s (0.5Mbps or 6.1 per cent), seeing EE’s gap cut by 30 per cent.

The full results are below:

Regionally, the report took in results from 17 UK cities, with EE users seeing average download speeds above 40Mbps in 14 cities. Three came last in every category except download and upload experience, where it beat O2 in both cases.
