With growth set to continue into the first quarter of next year
PC shipments are expected to surge 35 per cent in the Q4 2020 according to Canalys.
This includes desktops, notebooks and tablets, with sales to hit 143 million units in the final quarter of 2020.
It will ensure that overall shipments have grown 17 per cent year-on-year, thanks in part to the need for remote working, enforced by the global coronavirus pandemic.
This will take total PC shipments for 2020 to 458 million units.
Growth is also anticipated to continue into the new year, with shipments in the first quarter of 2021, expected to be up 43 per cent.
With full-year shipments for 2021 are expected to stabilise for a 1.4 per cent rise.
Commenting on the PC market growth, Canalys research director Rushabh Doshi said: “The pandemic has also revealed just how important secure and reliable connectivity is in the face of disruption. As travel, commuting, on-site work and emerging market demand for broadband alternatives increase, LTE and 5G connected PCs will see their popularity grow.”
