Lenovo led the way overall with 82.1 million units shipped during 2021

Global PC shipments passed 340 million units for the full year 2021, up 15 per cent on 2020.

That is according to figures from analyst firm Canalys, which revealed that shipments of desktops, notebooks and workstations hit just shy of 92 million units during the fourth-quarter of 2021.

For the full year revenue passed $250 billion, up 15 per cent from $220bn in 2020, as remote working continued due to the ongoing pandemic.

Overall Lenovo shipped 82.1 million units during 2021 for 24.1pc market share and first place overall, followed by HP with 74m units and 21.7pc share.

Dell with 17.4pc market share came third, with Apple (8.5pc) and Acer (7.1pc) completing the top five, as all five vendors increased year on year sales.

“2021 was a watershed year in the history of the PC market, with the PC’s place at the center of work, learning and leisure truly cemented,” said Canalys senior analyst Ishan Dutt.

“For the market to post double-digit growth over an impressive 2020, despite the constant cloud of supply constraints, speaks volumes about how strong PC demand has been over the last 12 months. Taking a long-term view, the most important developments in 2021 were the large increases in PC penetration and usage rates.”
