Lam joins two years after selling Mazuma Mobile to EcoAsia
Bamboo Distribution has announced the appointment of Mazuma co-founder John Lam as its new head of global buyback.
Industry veteran Lam will spearhead Bamboo’s e-commerce capabilities and global buyback scheme.
The Hertfordshire-based firm specialises in the recovery, refurbishment, resale and recycling of mobile phones.
Lam founded Mazuma Mobile in 2006 as an online mobile buyback company before selling the business to EcoAsia in 2018.
At its peak, Mazuma Mobile was trading in over 120,000 mobile handsets per month, with over 10 million handsets managed during Lam’s 12 years at the company.
Commenting on his new role Lam said: “I’m looking forward to working with the team at Bamboo Distribution.
“The telecoms industry has changed dramatically since I started. There has been a significant shift in how consumers view the value of their handsets and the trade-in market is definitely due a shake up. Bamboo has the foundation and channels to introduce a more modern buyback platform to give consumers more money for their mobile phones.”
Expertise
Bamboo Distribution managing director Juney Mistiki has welcomed the appointment.
“His experience and expertise are a great asset to our company and will add value to the current business, as well as working with us to develop a world-beating ecommerce and global buyback division.”
After the UK launch, Lam will support Bamboo in introducing the Buyback Platform across several European markets over the next 18 months, while trading over 100,000 handsets a month by 2022.
“After we launch in the UK this year, John will support Bamboo in introducing our Buyback Platform into several international countries within our 18 month plan. These include Germany, Spain, Turkey, Greece, Cyprus and Israel,” added Mistiki.
Bamboo Distribution currently provide services across 18 international markets, working with global insurance firms, operators and retailers.
