Chinese manufacturer TCL Communications saw its shipments in May grow by more than 11 per cent to 6.1 million, most of which were outside its home market, it has revealed.

TCL, which owns Alcatel, sold 5.8 million devices outside of China, up 24 per cent on May 2015. Smart devices accounted for 52 per cent of sales last month.

For the first five months of the year up until the end of May, TCL sold 27.9 million devices, up three per cent year on year, though sales of it smart devices fell 14 per cent to 14.6 million.

Following the establishment of a RMB10 billion industry merger and acquisition fund by TCL Corporation and Tsinghua Unigroup in early 2016, the Alcatel owner has also teamed up with the Hubei Province Yangtze River Guide Fund and Hubei Science and Technology Investment in May to set up another RMB10 billion industry fund (£1.06 billion).
