AeroMobile revenue soars with 10.5m passenger connections last year

Connections grew year-on-year from over seven million in 2014

AeroMobile hit a record 2015 after it saw the number of passengers connecting to its service grow to 10.5 million last year.

The Gatwick-based inflight mobile connectivity provider saw its connections increase from over seven million the year before. AeroMobile uses technology from Panasonic that enables mobile voice, data and SMS services on 400 aircrafts. It has partnerships with 17 airlines (including Emirates, Etihad, KLM and Virgin) and 330 networks (all UK operators) around the world.

Over 38 million passengers on 700,000 flights have connected to AeroMobile’s service since it formed in March 2008. Total revenue more than doubled year-on-year to over £8 million because of last year’s growth in connections. Revenue director Jack Gordon (pictured) claims the milestone year was driven by partnerships formed with China Mobile, airberlin, Alitalia and Swiss Airlines over the last year.

He told Mobile News: “We’re experiencing considerable growth at the moment. That’s been driven by the new airline partners, alongside our services now being available on our existing partners’ entire fleets, like Etihad (over 100).

“We’ve got some great airline partners and that helps with getting the attention of mobile operators when getting new roaming agreements.”

He added that the increasing use of data services over the past few years drove AeroMobile’s growth. Although he declined to reveal specific figures, Gordon said 80 per cent of AeroMobile connections last year were data-driven.

“Connectivity is now a valued part of the cabin experience. It’s not a case of if they’ll connect, but when. When you fly on a long-haul aircraft, mobile services are just as important as inflight entertainment and WiFi.”

Gordon confirmed to Mobile News that partnerships with four new airlines are expected to be announced in the coming months, but declined to reveal names.
