Samsung appoints ex-Virgin sales head as UK&I marketing director

Sharon Hegarty brings 20+ years of experience across industries

Samsung has appointed Sharon Hegarty as its IT and mobile marketing director for the UK and Ireland.

Hegarty’s career spans more than 20 years, and has seen her work across the music, videogame and telecoms industries. She replaces Rebecca Hirst in the role. According to Samsung, Hirst will “continue to support the team for a transitionary period”.

Past telco roles including channel marketing manager at Vodafone, head of sponsorship at Three, and interim head of brand and communications at TalkTalk.

She joins Samsung from Virgin Media, where she was director of brand and marketing from 2018. Prior to Virgin, she was marketing director at Sky TV.

Commenting on her appointment, Samsung’s corporate vice president for the UK and Ireland Conor Pierce said: “I am excited to welcome Sharon into the team. She brings a wealth of experience and expertise which will ensure she is perfectly placed to drive forward Samsung’s marketing approach in 2020 and beyond. I look forward to working shoulder-to-shoulder with her as we continue this incredible journey of growth.”

Samsung will be announcing its latest flagship device range at its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11. It is rumoured that the range will feature foldable devices.
