Evolve Telecom to treble base through acquisitions

Vodafone platinum dealer Evolve Telecom managing director Mark Gordon says it will aim to grow its connection base to 150,000 by DecemberEvolve Telecom says it wants to triple its connection base to more than 150,000 by the end of the year through acquisitions.

The Southend-based B2B dealer, which has offices in London and Cambridge also, currently has a base of 44,000 connections, all of which are on Vodafone.

Its target echoes that of Vodafone rival Premier Telecom,  which said last year it wanted to add 20,000 new connections to its base by the end of 2012, taking numbers above 100,000 – the biggest Vodafone base ever formed.

Evolve managing director Mark Gordon (pictured) told Mobile News the company will continue to grow organically but will look to acquire other businesses and bases this year to reach its target. Any acquisitions will be funded privately by shareholders.

Gordon said the company is in talks with an unnamed dealer for its base, but refused to name it. He stated Vodafone gold, silver and platinum partners were its preferred targets.

Evolve made its last acquisition in July 2010, buying Cambridge-based Vodafone platinum partner CBS Communications for an undisclosed fee. It saw Evolve’s customer base double to more than 30,000 connections.

Gordon said: “We’ll be looking at buying Vodafone bases or companies as a whole, no matter how big they are. Depending on acquisitions, I’d like our base to hit 150,000 connections by the end of the year, and that’s not inconceivable.

“We’re targeting Vodafone dealers within the silver, gold and even platinum partner tiers. They can be any size. This is possible because we have the appetite and resource to do it, but it depends on whether the opportunities come along.

“It would depend on a couple of very big things happening and some significant acquisitions going our way.”

In March, Evolve is relocating to a larger 8,000 sq ft head office two miles from its current premises as part of its expansion.
