LG G Flex to go on display at 10 EE stores from December 20

Users will be able to get their hands on the first curved smartphone to hit the UK before it goes on sale in February 

The LG G Flex – the first curved smartphone to be seen in the UK – will go on display exclusively at 10 EE stores from December 20.

Customers will be able to get hands-on with the device before it goes on sale at the operator from February, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Last month LG UK and Ireland head of mobile Andy Coughlin told Mobile News it would be priced as a high-tier smartphone.

It will be on display at the following stores:

  • London – Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford E20 1EH
  • London – Westfield Shopping Centre, White City W12 7GG
  • London – 155/157 Oxford Street, W1D 2JH
  • Kent – Bluewater Shopping Centre, DA9 9ST
  • Nottingham – 16 Clumber Street, NG1 3GA
  • Manchester – The Trafford Centre, M17 8AP
  • Brighton – 209-210 Western Road, BN1 2BA
  • Cambridge – 40-41 Lions Yard, CB2 3NA
  • Merry Hill – The Merryhill Centre, DY5 1QX
  • Sheffield – Meadowhall Centre, S9 1EN

The G Flex, which is vertically curved to follow the shape of the human jaw, is powered by a quad-core 2.26GHz processor and runs on the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system.

It has a six inch HD touchscreen, 13 megapixel rear and 2.1-megapixel front cameras, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.

The handset is also the first to feature LG’s self-healing technology. The elastic back coating absorbs minor scratches and can recover its original appearance in just under a minute.

Other features include ‘QTheatre’, which provides direct access to media content from the lock screen and ‘Swing Lockscreen’, which alters the image displayed when the phone is locked according to how the G Flex is held.

The G Flex was unveiled in October before going on sale in LG’s home market of Korea last month. It also went on sale in Hong Kong and Singapore at the start of this month.

Samsung announced the world’s first curved smartphone – the Galaxy Round – on October 9 before it went on sale in Samsung’s home market of Korea a day later. However, it is different to the G Flex as the screen is horizontally curved, with Samsung yet to reveal if it will be sold in the UK.
