ASUS unveils new devices in Zen range at Computex

New products launched at event in Taiwan include smartphone ZenFone Selfie, a new range of ZenPad tablets plus the ZenWatch 2 smartwatch

ASUS has unveiled a new smartphone at computer expo Computex in Taiwan, plus a new range of tablets and the follow-up to the ZenWatch.

The Taiwanese manufacturer launched the ZenFone Selfie smartphone (pictured, which comes with a two 13MP cameras, one on the back and one front-facing, and runs on Android

The device is powered by the 64-bit, octa-core Snapdragon 615 from Qualcomm and has a 5.5-inch screen with a 403ppi display.

Release dates and pricing were not disclosed for the device.

ASUS also announced a new series of tablets at the event which will replace the MemoPad series and come in 7-inch, 8-inch and 10 inch versions.

The ZenPad 8.0 was the device highlighted most by ASUS chairman Jonney Shih, who unveiled the new range of tablets.

The 8-inch tablet is 6.6mm thick, but rocks a 324 ppi display, and runs on Intel’s 64-bit Atom processor. It also features an inter-changeable cover design that allows users customise their device with different back covers.

Options for the back cover include an audio cover, which adds surround sound to the device, and a power case that ASUS claims can extend battery life on the tablet by up to 15 hours.

ZenWatch 2

ASUS also announced the follow-up to its debut smartwatch, unveiling the ZenWatch 2 at the event in Taipei.

The Android Wear smartwatch will come in two sizes and three different colours of stainless steel – silver, gunmetal and rose gold – with 18 interchangeable straps.

It also includes a metal watch crown that can be used to navigate the device, while it uses a magnetic charger which ASUS claims can extend the battery life, although no further details were shared.

ASUS did not disclose a launch date or UK availability for any of the devices.
