Samsung unveils Galaxy S phone

Samsung is to widen its Android portfolio with the release of the Galaxy S.

The Galaxy S, which runs off the Android 2.1 software, comes with a 4-inch ‘Super AMOLED’ screen that features mDNIe (mobile Digital Natural Image engine) – a technology used on Samsung’s LCD and LED televisions to enable HD video viewing and recording.

The handset includes a Social Hub to integrate all contacts’ social networking profiles, and corresponding status updates and alerts. It integrates all messaging across SMS and social networking applications into a single ‘live’ mailbox. It also incorperates a 1GHz application processor, 5-megapixel autofocus camera and A-GPS.

The Galaxy S will be available in Europe, North America, Latin America, Australia and Asia. A UK release date and availability details for the handset will be announced in the coming weeks.
