Wall Street Journal report, which cites people familiar to the matter, will not be a major departure from the Galaxy S6
Samsung will add a pressure-sensitive screen and retina scanner to its upcoming line of Galaxy S7 flagship smartphones.
This is according to a report in The Wall Street Journal, which cites people familiar with the matter.
It claims the pressure-sensitive screen will be similar to that offered by rival Apple on the iPhone 6s when it was released in September, and will allow the phone to interpret different touches depending on how the user presses the touchscreen.
A retina scanner is also being considered for some versions of the phone, following in the footsteps of other manufacturers such as ZTE that have already used the feature in their smartphones.
30 minute charging
The Galaxy S7 could also feature a high-speed charging port called a ‘USB Type-C’ port, which would allow for a full day’s charge in under 30 minutes and in some cases, significantly faster. This port has already appeared in smartphones from the likes of LG and Huawei.
According to the people cited by The Wall Street Journal, it will also feature an improved camera that is optimised for low-light photography and is “flush” with the back of the phone, unlike the Galaxy S6 camera that bulged out.
No major changes
It says that despite these additions, the improvements to the Galaxy S7, which is rumoured to launch at Mobile World Congress in February and be released in March, aren’t a major departure from the Galaxy S6 range
Noticeable features on these included the casing upgraded from plastic to metal and a curved screen on the Galaxy S6 edge and later edge+.
