Thousands of Apple fans hit the high street to be amongst the first to get their hands on the Apple’s latest smartphone incarnations. Mobile News captures all the action at the manufacturers Regent Street flagship store in London
Thousands of customers gathered around Apple’s Regent Street store today, some of which had spent three nights camped outside, to get their first glimpse of the new iPhone.
As is now tradition, Apple opened its stores at the earlier time of 8am (two hours early at Regent Street) to help cope with demand for the device, hailed by CEO Tim Cook as its “most advanced ever”.
EE, Vodafone, Three, O2, Virgin Media and Carphone Warehouse have also begun selling the iPhone 6s (starting from £539) and the 6s Plus (£619) from today.
Both devices are available in four metal finishes – silver, gold, gunmetal grey and the new rose gold version.
Several hundred people queued for the Regent Street store, although less stood in line for the device than last year, when almost a thousand people waited for the device.
One customer who said he had queued in previous years told Mobile News it was a lot quieter than the launch of the iPhone 6 last year.
Mo Ali, who manages a pizza shop in South London, said he’d attended the previous launch event and had to queue for hours, but this year he’d only joined the queue at 11pm on September 24 and was near the front of those of hadn’t pre-ordered their device.
The queues snaked around from Regent Street and into Hanover Square, where people were placed into separate pens depending on whether they had pre-ordered their device or not.
