EE plans to upgrade its home broadband service next year with a next-generation home broadband router supporting Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi 7 technology.
EE’s Smart Hub Plus currently supports Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 as standard. Wi-Fi 7 brings advanced wireless and service management capabilities to handle multi-gigabit Full Fibre broadband services such as cloud gaming, immersive AR/VR and 4K/8K video streaming will double the number of Wi-Fi-connected devices in the next five years
Wi-Fi 7 uses an extra 6GHz channel with 320 MHz channel bandwidth. This allows more capacity (Wi-Fi 6E is 160MHz), Multi-Link Operation allows data to be sent over multiple bands simultaneously and 4K QAM which offers up to 20% increase in peak data transmission performance.
Customers are expected to benefit from multi-gigabit Wi-Fi with faster speed, less interference, more capacity and better performance to support multiple high-bandwidth activities,
EE home broadband customers will be amongst the first in the world to get access to the next generation of Wi-Fi, with the first EE Wi-Fi 7 router due to launch in 2024.
“We have a history of collaborating with Qualcomm Technologies. so we’re delighted to evolve this strategic collaboration into our in-home products. EE broadband customers will be among the first globally to benefit from a next-gen Wi-Fi 7 home hub” said EE CEO Marc Allera.
