The only way is up

Author John Mortimer once summed up the preconception of one south-west town as a fading seaside resort with few attractions when he said: Ive always believed that no pleasure is worth giving up for six months in a geriatric home in Weston-super-Mare.

Given such an image, it might seem an odd choice as the location for a high-tech-focused business specialist mobile outlet, but clearly Paul Hooper doesnt agree.

In fact it was a logical choice for expansion for his firm Uplands Mobile Multimedia, which has been in operation since 1979, supplying mobile and in-car stereo and audio kit from four high street stores in Wales and the West Country. It also runs a successful call centre and a retail website.

Long experience

The company has certainly made the most of its long experience not only did it achieve Best Small Retailer at this years Mobile News Awards, but it also scooped the CAR Gold Award for Best Specialist Chain 2005 and 2006. Its close relationship with O2 has also seen it achieve O2 Advance Partner Status.

The company already has a healthy business client base, serviced by a dedicated team of specialist sales people. But the conditions hampering a sales force in the field were one factor that prompted Hooper to open Uplands Business Specialist Centre.
