Vodafone sponsors Ferrari F1

It is the largest in Vodafones history and will involve branding on the sidepod nose and front wing of the Ferraris. The Vodafone brand will also appear on the drivers overalls and helmets. Vodafone also gets the opportiunity to market directly to Ferraris fan base.

This is an exceptionally good deal for us says Vodafone chief executive officer Chris Gent.

It is moving us into the super league of world-wide branding.

Vodafone dipped its toe into the world of Formula One last year when it had a small amount of branding on the Jordan cars. This was mainly its website address.

The Ferrari deal dramatically upstages Oranges sponsorship of the Arrows team which has yet to produce a team capable of competing for the world championship let alone podium places.

F1 reaches a world-wide audience of 52 billion people each year.

Mobile penetration now at 68pc

Power and Associates 2001 UK Mobile Telephone Customer Satisfaction Survey.

Of households with at least one mobile phone the portion with two or more phones has increased from 52 per cent last year to 67 per cent this year.

Orange remains in top position for the fourth year running achieving a customer satisfaction score of 108 points for pre-pay.

One 2 One was the most improved network for customer satisfaction says J.D. Power.

Nearly one in 10 housholds with a mobile phone has a WAP phone. Yet just one in three is actually used for internet access.

There has been a significant decrease this year among non-WAP phone owners expressing an interest in accessing the internet with their mobiles says Gunda Lapski director of telecoms and utilities for J.D. Power.

The difference may well be a reflection of the negative publicity that has surrounded WAP.

Mobile News sues Chestergate

Judgment was given in Clerkenwell County Court on Wednesday May 2 and follows non-payment of two advertisements that appeared in Mobile News last June and August.

The advertisements were for a mobile comms exhibition Chestergate was trying to launch at the NEC in Birmingham but which never took place. They were placed by Chestergate executive Justin Bird.

Chestergate Exhibitions originally defended the summons issued against them on the grounds that the invoices raiased had not been sent to the correct division.

But the company failed to appear at the five-minute hearing in which District Judge Stary issued the Judgment against Chestergate.

Chestergate said its show had not been cancelled but merely postponed.

Yet there have been no ann-ouncements about a second date.

Send thousands of text messages at the push of one button says Mobilefone Group division

It uses their own telemetry device called blackBOX to send a signal via a computer to customers handsets – cutting down on the time and expense of using mobile phones land-lines or written material.

Director of sales and marketing Mike Langley said:

For example a pub chain could send a text message to everyone on their database informing them of a two-for-one drink offer and potentially a very good night out.

A travel agent may want to remind all its customers who have booked a holiday to make sure they remember to get currency and insurance – this is a quicker and cheaper way to do it – you press one button and the message goes to one person or a group of people – you are totally in control over who receives what information and when.
