The survey ranked 14 telecoms firms on how they treated online users in the third quarter of 2006.

Customers make assumptions on a company and its brand based on the online experience said Customer Respect Group spokesman Matthias Bohler.

T-Mobile offers one pound Internet

The service will allow customers to access any web site on their mobile for no more than GBP1 a day.

Phil Chapman director of marketing for T-Mobile UK said: No other operator lets its customers browse the ?real Internet from their handset. WebnWalk enables people to check out the sites that are personal to them not just a prescribed number of partner sites as offered by other operators.

All new WebnWalk devices are designed to connect to the Internet from the moment of purchase.

The range of WebnWalk handsets on pre-pay include popular devices such as the Motorola V3 and Nokia 6131.

Contract customers on T-Mobile can pay GBP7.50 a month for unlimited mobile web browsing.

O2 Ice in-store this autumn

Dubbed the O2 Ice The slim candy bar phone has video capabilities and allows users to stream downloaded videos sent from friends and families.

The handset features an inbuilt MP3 player and a 1.3 megapixel camera with zoom.

The O2 Ice combines a phone camera and video recorder in an all-in-one digital device commented an O2 spokeswoman.

The handset which has WAP will be available from GBP99 on pre-pay or free on contract only from O2 stores.

Avenir picks finance chief

Korel had agreed to take the role as part of the senior management revamp that followed the appointment of Tanny Price as managing director at the beginning of May but was required to work out his notice at service provider Telecom Plus.

Korel said: Avenir is an extremely well-run business in all aspects including finance so I cannot envisage any major changes unless changes in business circumstances dictate.

Orange animal tariffs escape service limits

Customers upgrading to an 18-month tariff and spending over GBP35 a month are promised unlimited service of specific services.

Orange vice-president of marketing Jean-Pascal van Overbeke said: During the four months since we launched our animal tariffs we have continued to learn from our customers about how each group uses their mobile. It is now time to use this insight to make the packages more relevant and make sure we are providing Orange customers with great value.

In the new deal customers with a Dolphin package will receive unlimited texts Racoon users will get unlimited calls to landlines Canary package users will receive unlimited evening and weekend calls and Panther users will receive unlimited off-peak texts.

The new offer will be supported by a GBP5 million TV ad campaign.

Miles resigns from Vodafone

His resignation follows in the footsteps of UK CEO Bill Morrow who left last month to spend time with his family in the US.

Miles will be succeeded by Steve Pusey a senior executive at communications provider Nortel.

Pusey said: The strategic priority will be to reduce capital and operating costs and ensure Vodafone differentiates its offerings in the marketplace.

Miles said he was sorry to go but that Pusey would be an excellent successor.

Miles sudden departure follows a string of high profile exits from the firm over the last few months. Most notable departures include Keith Varty distributor channel manager Richard Hurring head of commercial partnerships Chris Huggett director of enterprise sales Jason Rigby senior manager of business partnerships and Iain Graham head of dealer sales.

Ringtones lose ground to downloads

The findings from research body Juniper estimate that as a result mobile music revenues will top $14 billion (GBP7.5 billion) worldwide by 2011 with Europe expected to contribute 27 per cent to the total.

Juniper research director Bruce Gibson said: Until now ringtones have a dominated mobile music but the balance is shifting. Full track downloads have been the central offering of many 3G service launches around the world. As 3G usage gathers pace the mobile music market is preparing to enter a new growth phase.

Juniper predicts that between 2006?2011 total revenues from mobile music services will see the market share for ringtones fall from 81 per cent to 51 per cent with full track music downloads rising from nine per cent to 32 per cent.

Gibson added: Ringtones wont die away far from it. We believe that continued product innovation within the personalised product sector will ensure ringtones remain popular for the foreseeable future.

Tesco moves into memory

Tesco will offer a range of removable memory cards in a deal thought to be worth GBP6 million over 12 months.

Tesco memory card buyer John Andrew said: Our long term aim ? to be as strong in non?food as in food ? will mean we can offer the same quality range and price for our customers as we do in our food business.

He added: Our own?brand and branded memory are a key element in our expanding electrical lines. Our photo team has utilised Cataluss product and market knowledge in selecting the new range of removable memory cards.

The range includes 128MB and 256MB Secure Digital memory cards 256MB Memory Stick PRO Duo and 256MB xD Picture cards for cameras music players and camcorders as well as mobiles.

Nokia N93 gives golf lessons

The golf package allows users to capture their golf swing on?screen and the analyse and improve their game with a split?screen swing comparison.

Nokia vice?president of multimedia sales and channel management Mads Winblad said: The combination of fantastic video quality and ability to analyse your golf swing with a device thats always with you is going to appeal to golfers who want to use the latest mobile technology to improve their game.

The golfing application will come pre?installed on special editions of the N93 handset available from Nokia stores. A Nokia spokesman added: Golfing partners can take it in turns to film each other. Then they can play back the video and the software will assess their swing and help them improve.

Nokia Nseries is also the official sponsor of the European PGA Tour for 2006 and 2007.

118118 cuts out call centre

Mobile users can now text their requests rather than phoning the call centre to get a more prompt response to their query.

Mark Evans innovations director of 118118 owner The Number commented: The number of text requests we receive at 118118 from mobile users who assume that were available as a text back service has surged to thousands a day. Until now we couldnt help. Now we can.

The service will be operated by the same staff who take calls for 118118 and text message responses will not be automated.

Evans added: We hope the Text Back service will make it even easier for people to have all the benefits our trained operators can offer from simple numbers to price checking train times and cinema listings.

118 118 ?Text Back will cost GBP1 from all mobile networks. If the listing is not located users receive a free text notifying them that the number is not found.
